château mouton rothschild " back label 2010
a first growth from the bordeaux region, château mouton rothschild is one of the world's finest wines. it comprises almost 200 acres of vines at pauillac in the médoc, planted with classic bordeaux varieties. brought to the pinnacle by baron philippe de rothschild (1902-1988), who also made it a place of art and beauty, the estate now belongs to his daughter, baroness philippine de rothschild.
each year since 1945 a famous artist has created an original artwork for the label, with complete freedom as to the design.
the commission to illustrate this vintage was given to the american sculptor jeff koons, born in 1955 and a leading figure in contemporary art. koons works with everyday or kitsch objects but also draws inspiration from antiquity, as with this fresco from pompeii, the birth of venus, which his silver drawing turns into venus with vessel " both the cup which holds and the ship which, under a bright sun, carries into the distance an exquisite wine: surely mouton rothschild 2010.
