classified as a premier cru classé from bordeaux , chateau mouton rothschild is one of the best wines, the world has to offer. the chateau comprises of 82 hectares of vineyards at pauillac in the médoc region, planted with the noble french grape varietals. le baron de rothschild (1902 - 1988) was responsible for bringing this grand success that it boasts of today. he added an aspect of art and beauty to the wine. today the cheateau belongs to his daughter la baronne phillippine de rothschild. since 1945 the labels of château mouton rothschild have been decorated by a different artist each year. the greatest names in contemporary art are present in this collection which is enriched every year. for the 2005 vintage, which will be available from spring 2008, baroness philippine de rothschild has entrusted the task to italian sculptor guiseppe penone (born in 1947) know for his paintings and other works of art. in his work, penone, often depicts culture and nature, man and the plants . his design for mouton 2005 evokes the "green fingers" of the vine growers, a lively expansion of the the vine leaf with the hand prints of the wine connoisseur on the muton bottle.
