a first growth from the bordeaux region, château mouton rothschild is one of the world's finest wines. it covers 82 hectares of vines in pauillac in the médoc, planted with the noble grape varieties of bordeaux. brought to the summit by baron philippe de rothschild (1902 " 1988), who also turned it into a place of art and beauty, it belongs today to his daughter baroness philippine de rothschild.
each year since 1945 a famous artist creates an original work for the label, conceived in total liberty.
the 2005 vintage was entrusted to a major figure of contemporary art, the italian sculptor, giuseppe penone (born in 1947), and also known for this drawings and installations.
in his work, penone often associates culture and nature, the human and vegetal. his drawing for the 2005 mouton evokes the "green thumb" of the winemaker, living expansion of the vine leaf and also the outspread fingers of the drinker". soon to be wrapped around a glass of mouton!
