wishes to honour the memory of two of her ancestors: angelo and
guelfo guelfi who, at risk of their own lives took part in the battles
for independence. in 1849 angelo guelfi, who was known as a
"fervent patriot", hid garibaldi in his home in scarlino, and helped
him escape by boat towards liguria. his son guelfo, donatella"s
great-great grandfather was an officer under garibaldi in the
victorious bezzecca battle in 1859.the red shirt worn by garibaldi
and his soldiers is today worn by our wonderful brunello 2006 and
honours the generosity and courage of those who fought to create a
free and unified italy.
