every year since 1945, the mouton rothschild label is illustrated by the original creation of a contemporary painter. however i decided to change this custom for the 2003 vintage, the 150 years anniversary of the entrance of the mouton in the family patrimony. as a matter of fact it is may 11, 1853 that my direct ancestor ?le baron nathaniel de rothschild? (1812-1870) represented here by a picture from that time, bought this legendary cru. the writing on the label is a part of the act of purchase of the domaine, a beginning of a love story between the rothschild and the high quality wine of bordeaux. so exceptionally the future combine the past, the art let the space to the document and the painting to the photography.
