there is a hill in the tenuta di castiglioni, which has always been planted with vineyards, testaments to the viticultural passion and dedication of many generations of the frescobaldi family. because of the way the rows of vines embrace the hill, since 1287 it has been known as: giramonte. the current vineyards was replanted in 1993, following the most modern techniques, to a density of 5500 vines per hectare; the vines grow at an elevation of 250 meters, in infertile clayey calcareous soils. the grapes, merlot and sangiovese, ferment in 50-hectoliter tanks for about 20 days. after aging for 14 months in new small oak barrels, giramone matures for a few months in bottle prior to release.
