explanation of "cougar juice"
in the state of washington, the primary enology program is at washington state university (wsu). the mascot of wsu is the cougar. us winemakers are very proud of our university. there is always a big rivalry between wsu and the other major university, university of washington. their mascot is the husky. people commonly talk about whether they are a "coug" or a "husky."
in casual conversation, winemakers will refer to wine as juice. the term cougar juice was born to show pride in being a "coug" and let other "cougs" know which university we are associated with.chardonnay
