translation: a classified first growth from the bordeaux region, chateau mouton rothschild is one of the world?s greatest wines. it comprises 203 acres of vineyards at pauillac in the medoc, planted to the noble bordelais varietals.
led to the top by the baron philippe de rothschild (1902-1988), who also made of it a place of art and beauty, the estate today belongs to his daughter, the baroness philippine de rothschild.
each year, since 1945, a famous artist has created an original masterpiece as the mouton label, conceived with complete artistic freedom.
the 2002 vintage label was entrusted to ilya kabakov (born in 1933), a major figure in russian contemporary art, equally well known as an illustrator, painter, and project creator.
kabakov entitled his drawing for mouton ?okho,? the window, in russian. behind the bottle?s ?window,? the artist reveals another world to us: whirling in infinity, a myriad of wings trace the outline, simultaneously carrying us on a joyous flight of dream and bliss ? a transparent allegory for the magic of a great wine!
