(modern southern italy) . in the same year the state mint in palermo, coined the oncia, or ounce, in 22 kt gold weighing 7.71 grams. on the right side there appears the king's head with the words: car. d.sic. et. hie. rex.in. latin abbreviations that stand for: god bless charles, spanish infant king of sicily and jerusalem.
on the opposite side of the coin, there appears the phoenix that burns itself looking at the sun and around it the motto: resurrect with the year of coinage.
